Getting footage off your camera and actually uploaded

Built on our own edit rigs, not a theoretical pipeline

Workflows, organized by where you actually are in the process

Getting the footage right in-camera before you’ve shot a single frame you’ll regret.

Keeping footage off the card is crucial because it prevents losing a shoot to a bad drive or a bad copy.

Where codec choices from Capture actually catch up with you.

This is the point where most good footage is ruined by bad settings.

FAQ

Whatever is most relevant to the guide, and workflow posts need to specifically mention the exact NLE and version they used because export settings and codec handling vary enough between editors that a vague answer doesn’t actually help.

They’re different, and codec behavior, log profiles, bit depth, color science, file structure, media requirements, etc are vastly different across camera systems, because the capture and editing guides should point out the camera specific weirdness rather than assuming everyone behaves the same.

Because the real bottleneck can occur at any of 4 stages, and 1 massive workflow guide would make it harder to find the exact fix you need, each guide is focused on 1 stage instead.

Maybe get in touch and tell us what you use, because we prefer software that we actually edit with ourselves, for the same reason every other pillar is limited to gear we physically own.

Compiled and tested by Gregor. Workflows that are revisited when an NLE update changes, or a camera firmware update changes, or a platform export requirement changes, are what actually works.
