Dji Osmo Pocket 4P Pro

DJI Osmo Pocket 4P (Pro) latest news

DJI is preparing for the launch of the new DJI Osmo Pocket 4P or Osmo pocket 4 Pro. There has been an increase of leaked specs and Chinese influencer videos showing some, but not all, of the new feature this camera will have over the normal DJI Osmo Pocket 4.

Dual Lens

The most obvious feature is the dual lens module, that has been hinted for some time in the leaked pictures. Beside the 1 inch 50 mp Omnivison sensor it also has a new 3x telephoto lens, which equates roughly to 70 mm, that completely changes the way you can shoot with this portable camera.

This is particularly evident in shots of people where you can achieve a better representation of the face, without the typical distortions of a wide angle lens, while also achevieng depth of field or in lame terms background blur, allowing you to separate the subject from the background.

3x telephoto lens

The telephoto lens allows you to have up to 3x times lossless zoom, with the option of zooming even further, up to 6x – some reports indicate that it is actually 2x lossless and 4x digital. This feature also empowers you to do sots with a strong parallax effect, similarly to what you can do with drones that have a zoom lens such as the DJI Air 3.

2 additional physical buttons

As we saw in the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, the Osmo Pocket 4P also has 2 additional buttons placed under the screen. One of them is programmable, while the other is a zoom rocker. This physical zoom button is particularly useful with the telephoto lens as you can do smooth professionally looking zoom pulls, without having to use the cumbersome with the touch screen.

D-Log2 color profile

Not only do we get a true Log profile with the new 4 series of Osmo Pocket cameras, but the Pocket 4P gets the new D-Log2 color profile. This along with the reported up to 17 stops of dynamic range (which is hard to believe for such a small sensor) will give videographers who enjoy color grading a versatile flat high-dynamic range image that will be a joy to color grade, further enhancing the possibility of achieving cinematic shots.

4K at 240fps in slow motion

While not being a Pocket 4P only feature, this feature along with the zoom functions of the Pocket 4P truly elevates the potential of this camera in getting slow motion cinematic shots of close ups of objects in the far distance. Very impressive and a leap forward compered to all other current consumer cameras that can only do 120fps in 4K.

Conclusion

While all of the specs have not been released yet and we are only getting partial teasers of the Pocket 4 Pro, it definitely< looks like a solid upgrade from the previous incredibly popular Osmo Pocket 3, much more so than the regular Pocket 4. The only question now is how it will compare to the competition, specifically the Insta360 Luna Pro, that also has a dual lens gimbal camera coming out about the same time – more on the Insta360 Luna Pro in an upcoming article.
