There is no more doubting about Panasonic’s new release that will happen on the 13th of May; two leaks one form Weebo and one form a Brazilian site have given us more information on the upcoming product releases.
The Panasonic Lumix S1II and S1IIE
The leak from the Brazilian website gave us more information specifically for the S1IIE, the lower end camera, which will be cheaper and lack some of the video feature of the flagship S1II.
What we know is that S1IIE will have:
A 24.2MP sensor inspired by the LUMIX S5II
I will support 6K 30p (3:2) open gate recording
14+ stops of dynamic range in v-log
30 fps in electronic shutter mode in different modes (SH/SH PRE, H+ High speed plus) and 10 fps mechanical, without blackout
Price €2.800,00
Both the S1II and the S1IIE will have double card slots, one being
The S1II will have:
A partially stacked24.2 MP sensor, supposedly the same as the one found in the Nikon Z6 III
Up to 4K 120p no crop video
Price €3.500,00
Panasonic S1II and S1IIE with fully articulated tilting screen (same as on the S1RII), full HDMI out and USBc charging.
Both will have:
The new CinemaScope4K60p aspect ratio with no crop
Advanced AF precision – redefined real-time recognition Hybrid Phase AF with improved eye and face detection
New AI tacking accuracy for people
New AF recognition “Urban sports” for tracking dynamic movements such as skating, breakdance and parkour
8.0-stop in-body stabilization and no-crop EIS video distortion correction, which stabilizes without cropping
ARRI LogC3 with purchasable firmware update (this is for the E version, the S1II may have it already as it is more expensive)
Support of 5.8K 30p / C4K 60p Apple ProRes RAW HQ / ProRes RAW internal recording on CFexpress Type B card
The new lighter cheaper Lumix S24-60 F2.8 lens
The new lens, which might be the new kit lens or at least bundled with the new cameras, will weigh 544 grams, have a custom button and will sell for €999,00.
This is the information we have so far and there are many questions that need to be answered;
Will the new features of the S1II be enough to persuade customers to choose it over the much cheaper Nikon Z6 III?
What other features are missing in the S1IIE version that are found in the flagship?
Will the S1II be a better video camera than the S1RII?
Will the S1IIE new features be enough to persuade S5IIX owners to upgrade?
Will the S5II/X be still viable options due to the price difference?
These and many more questions will be answered on the 13th of May at 3 pm GMT, when the embargo will be lifted and Lumix will have a livestream.
