Nikon Z5 II leaked specs

Nikon Z5 II leaked specs

New information has been posted on the specs of the upcoming Nikon Z5 II. As I already discussed in my previous Nikon Z5 II post, it will have the specs of the Nikon ZF, with an upgraded Expeed 7 Image Processor, in a Z5 body.

The Nikon Z5 II will have the specs of the Nikon ZF with some new features added

Nikon Z5 II size and weight

It is rumored that the size of the new Nikon Z5 II is almost identical to its predecessor the Z5, which weighs 675 grams (including battery and card) and is 134 x 100.5 x 69.5 mm in size. If we compare it to the ZF, which weights 710 grams and is 144 x 103 x 49 mm, it is lighter, narrower, shorter but due to the lack of grip in the ZF substantially thicker.

If we compare it to the Nikon Z50 II, which weighs 550 grams and is 127 x 96.8 x 66.5 mm, it is larger and heavier, but being a full frame camera it is expected.

  • Nikon Z5 134 x 100.5 x 69.5 mm, 675 grams
  • Nikon ZF     144 x 103 x 49 mm, 710 grams
  • Nikon Z50 II 127 x 96.8 x 66.5 mm, 550 grams

Nikon Z5 II body and controls

If the layout will be similar to the Z5, it will have all the buttons one would need – the autofocus joystick, which is missing in the Z50 II, is something I do look forward to. I do like that it will have the mode dial on the right side of the camera, so you can use you can access all the modes with your right hand. Like the Z50 II, it will probably have a Picture Control button on the top plate and it could also have the still/video switch attached to the mode dial, instead on the back.

The viewfinder and LCD will be the same as on the Nikon ZF, a 3.69M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a fully articulating 2.1 M-dot LCD display. It will have dual UHS-II SD card slots,  the EN-EL15c battery and 5-axis IBIS.

The old 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor will be complemented with the new Expeed 7 Image Processor giving it all the benefits that we see in the Z6 III and Z50 II – Hybrid phase-detection/contrast AF with AF assist with 9 subject detection options (Auto/ People / Animal / Birds / Vehicle / Airplanes / 3D)

Video and stills capabilities

Video shooters will be glad to have the availability of shooting in N-RAW 12-bit video at 4K at 24/30 fps (uncropped), downsampled from 6k, and 10-bit 4K at 60 fps (with a 1.5x DX crop).

For vlogger it, features seen in the Z50 II will also be available; product review, selfie mode (LCD screen mode when filming yourself), video self-timer, and skin softening.

For stills it will shoot at 14 fps RAW and 30 fps for JPEG’s. Having IBIS, it will also have pixel shift, making 96 MP high resolution photos.

Announcement date and price

Sources still say that the announcement date should be this week on the 2nd / 3rd of April (depending on your timezone). If the announcement date is correct and it will follow the Z50 II shipping times, it should be available at the end of April/beginning of May. If there aren’t any major flaws with the Z5 II and the leaked specs are correct, there should be quiet a substantial interest in this camera so there might be delays in its availability.

The only rumor about the price of the Z5 II is that it will be higher than the Z5, which was $1.399,00 (body only) when it launched in 2020, so I would guess $1.699,00 – $1.799,00, hopefully not $2.000 or more.
